Audience - The audience for this game is obviously above 18yrs of age, this is shown by the fact that 1. There is an 18 pegi warning on the bottom left hand corner of the front cover, 2. The graphical images on both the front and back cover contain horror genre images of disfigured and mutilated corpses/creatures, this backs up the fact that this is really a horror genre game and not some sort of light hearted game for young children.
Genre - The genre of this game is Horror, this is asserted by the fact that there is a lot of graphical images that depict blood somewhere on the screen. The title itself also adds to the idea that this is a Horror genre game as it is partially splattered in blood.
Narrative - The title and sub heading "The Nightmare Returns" are in bold and obvious text which could mean that the game is blunt and straight to the point or it could be a reference to the fact that everything in game is bold and in your face. The smaller images it shows are all from in game, this lets the audience see what the game is like when you are playing it which in turn allows the audience to decide whether or not it is the game for them.
Propp's Theory -
Villain - Necromorphs/The Marker (The Creatures you see on both covers - Marker is the creator of said Creatures)
Hero - Isaac Clarke (Main character depicted in the suit on both covers)
Princess/Goal - To remove the Creatures and the Markers from the ship Isaac is on.
Berger's Theory -
The Male Gaze from this cover is that there is obvious violence on the front and back cover which usually appeals to a Male audience, the main audience is presumably male as like previously stated that there is obvious violence on the page, although it may appeal to a male audience it is more socially normal that a gamer which not only plays games but also plays violent horror games is a male, this is because of the stereotypical ideals that men are the only ones capable of being violent and above women, this is mostly the case for the cover of this game.
Part 1 of the work completed, Part 2 coming soon hopefully...When I get around to it, soon. Probably.
