Media Studies - Dishonored Website Info and Theories

Media Work Audience - This website is designed for an audience who obviously enjoys gaming, this is shown by the fact that there is a Pre-order message on the side with the game on three different platforms (Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and PC) underneath all that there is a PC GAMER logo which shows that the audience is primarily people over the age of 18, this is made clear as although it is for all 3 consoles, it is most likely going to be the most dedicated and updated on the PC which in turns makes the point that this for the 18 year old audience as usually it is someone above the age of 18 that will be playing PC Games like this on a computer as it is very expensive to get a computer capable of playing games like this (By the age of 18 you will most likely have a job and thus be able to afford a computer that is capable of playing games like these.)

Media Work Genre - The genre of this game website is clearly Action/Adventure and stealth, this is shown by the fact that there is blood splattered on the Main large title of the game "Dishonored" and it is also shown by the clouds/smoke in the background as a large majority of regular gamers associate things that are wisp like to be considered stealth orientated/signifies stealth, the other reason is that the main character depicted in the picture is wearing a mask and wielding a dagger, these two aspects go hand in hand for the stereotypical idea of an assassin as the mask is shown to hide the persons identity and the dagger is meant to symbolize stealth as it isn't a normal weapon to be used in combat. The hand with the marking indicates that there will be more to the game than simple hack-and-slash action with stealth elements included, it shows that there is some sort of unnatural power that the person possesses which will thus make the game include abilities or powers of some sort (This slightly affects the games genre as it means the game will have multiple aspects to it rather than just the standard action/adventure genre.)

Media Work Narrative - The game is depicted as a Steampunk styled game as the image contains a lot of smoke, the main character's mask is clockwork and some of the buildings in the background are spewing smoke, these are the usually signs that the game is set in a Steampunk era (Steampunk is the combination of Victorian styled buildings/decorations and what the world would have been like without the general use of electricity (Electricity is considered an inferior source of power/fuel compared to coal which is the most common power source)). The websites layout is simple so that it conveys ease to the viewer, this may mean that the game is going to be easy to pick up and play. The subtle "Revenge solves everything" quote is used to convey that the story will involve revenge and that the game isn't going to be an easy going one.
